I'm guessing that it's another test; they probably had a Scryer monitoring them through the dungeon, or some other such method of tracking them, and they're checking to see if they'll be honest about who actually dealt the killing blow. If they are honest, then they graduate. Otherwise, it's a black mark on their record, or even worse they don't graduate at all!

@bluswordgrl: My guess would be whatever is in that hole. It seems to be making a "zuu" sound, which is probably distinct from the rings "zeeen" sound. Maybe he's afraid of some monster being present, or even the dungeon killer.

Well. I'm sure that that shining pearl that it's holding has no relevance at all to the plot. Nope. Not at all.

But in seriousness, love that we see the 3 viewpoints on "useless items" present in RPG's; "It's useless", "It's not even worthy as vendor trash", and "Take anything that isn't nailed down, and if it is, take the nails as well, since you might just need it".

Still, Great page.

Now watch as it turns out to be a golem created by the Dungeon Killer. It's just so small and disarming that people wouldn't suspect it of blowing up or coming to life and taking their head off.

Alternatively, it's vendor trash.
Hmm. Speaking of ultra balls: They have an H on top of them, and they're called hyper-balls in Japanese. English translation fail.

But I must say that this at least explain how we can carry 99 of every single pokeball and not have them all shatter if you move an inch in the wrong direction.
