Did you know that (at least according to the Arthur wikia I went to get references to draw these characters) there are no horse people OR lop-eared rabbit people on Arthur? Plenty of crooked, bent or slightly flopped ears but no FULL lop, can you believe it? And that there were no horse-people (again, that I could find) at all REALLY threw me for a loop. I'll have to find more excuses to use them from now own.

My dad is NOT a cat fan. I don't mind them, although right now I have two dogs, instead,
I'm sure I've heard this joke before but I can't remember where so... FREE GAME.

So I was studying more Arthur screen-caps and found that my inking was a bit thick in comparison, so I thinned it to the same relative size as it is on the show. I think it's an improvement

I don't think Arthur and D.W.'s relationship is quite as antagonistic as it used to be. Being "mature", he now often tries to give her the benefit of his additional four years of wisdom (and sometimes it's actually good advice) but more often than not she's just won't have it

So what was all this about? Well, two things....
1. I really wanted to bring duck people back into the Arthur-verse (even if it's just in my tiny little comic's 'parallel timeline')
and 2. Looking back on how I'd been realizing D.W.'s character as someone who was more afraid of vulnerability than embarrassment (so she would rather own all her slip-ups than blush at them) I realized that in more than a few potential situations that could be a pretty BAD thing (and not bad FUNNY, just BAD).

So while I was thinking of all the duck jokes I could make, I started to think: What if the duck in question was the one making them?

I don't think I have a new 'jokester' character decided yet, and it would be nice if they were actually funny when they WANTED to be instead of just incidentally (looking at YOU, Baxter).

I've been wanting to add ducks for a while but since they mysteriously disappeared from the show AND there's no articles on them in the Arthur wiki - which is especially conspicuous since they have like EVERY OTHER BACKGROUND CHARACTER EVER (seriously, like even peeps who only showed up in a SINGLE fantasy sequence) - I can only conclude...THAT THERE IS SOME MASSIVE SECRET CONSPIRACY AGAINST THE ARTHUR DUCK PEOPLE!!!

TELL THE PRESS!!! It's only a matter of time before they get to memsfndngjggnsdvvjjnbbnb;gmggm3=-98ougiv\[[]j

I am fine. Please continue to watch Arthur on your local public television station - on which there were never any so-called "duck people" at any time. Donate generously.

This strip features Bert, a peer of Arthur I was hesitant to include as he doesn't exist in the animated universe proper, but rather is a book character.
...but in the end I figured...eh, why not?

I don't even know (or care) if this joke is "accurate" or not, I just know that this exact thing happened between me and my older brother a while ago (we recently decided to get into Doctor Who) and he made this observation and above was my reaction. We laughed

Well, today's comic ended up seven panels long but the "Sunday-Style" model seemed to flashy for me (plus it wasn't a special occasion). At the same time, however, I didn't want to stretch strip that long horizontally so....ta-da! Now we have a 7-panel format, Yay!

Funny thing: the Arthur cartoon started in 1996 while Dora the Explorer didn't show up until 2000 - so this strip only works in the present-day since that would put her flashback at 2012.

My point? D.W. is now officially "dated"

For one Dios Mio means oh my goodness. Also, this reminded me of one of the tag-line from that Alien vs. Predator movie: "No matter who wins, we lose."

...featuring Mary-Ann (first D.W. appearance), along Edwin and Kyle (who cameo-ed in the 'School Days' arc).

arthur.wikia.com/wiki/Kyle

I'd been wondering if someone should 'replace' Buster as the 'conspiracy theory guy', it would seem Kyle's fallen into the role (except HIS concerns are just a little more legitimate), poor Kyle

This happened so often in my house growing up that before long we had a rule where milk was to be used almost exclusively just for cereal...but then we just started running out of cereal faster. Dad was so peeved.

Yeah, I couldn't leave D.W. and Emily un-patched so this is the real 'ending' to the arc.

There's a lot going on here, character-wise, but I think over-explaining it like I do sometimes will just ruin it, so if there's any anyone wants to ask something I'll respond to their comment, otherwise I'll just let it be

Constructing this arc really got me thinking about D.W.'s character: So far she's been mostly unflappable except for a few 'hiccups', which is good - it's often a character's weaknesses that make them interesting, but I wasn't exactly sure what hers was until this arc.

Whereas Arthur has been put on record (by Brain) as having a "pathological fear of embarrassment", looking back on some of her T.V moments and how they've moved me to depict her in my comic (almost without even really thinking about it), I'd say that, in my opinion, D.W.'s Achilles heel is instead a fear of vulnerability. In other words: she's not afraid of being embarrassed - she's afraid of being ABLE to be embarrassed.

So far whenever D.W. has been 'caught' doing something that would make most of us want to shrivel away in shame, instead she just sort of 'owns it', preferring to be (or at least be known as) the sort of person who'd do those things unabashedly rather than someone who'd flinch, and this throws her would-be teasers off guard - take for instance D.W. #1 where Emily thinks D.W. is being evasive when in actuality she's just admitting her feelings in such a stark way that Emily just refuses to believe it
