Spikings
I'm Hannah Spikings, a Freelance Artist in Lincolnshire, UK. I drink too much tea, eat too much pizza and I'm making this webcomic called APOC, an action, coming-of-age story filled with chaos, government secrecy, weird experiments and some hellish entities. I'm also making weekly comic strips about the life of a freelancer over on Frolicking Freelancery.

My Patreon contains early access to both webcomics, plus other sketches and WIPs I make on the fly! Sound good? Then head on over!

This feels like a perfect time for a joke about "taking out the trash" or something similar. If anyone wants to give it a shot, go ahead.

It's reunion time! :D
Also sorry if the colours look a bit different from the previous page - I've not been happy with how they've been looking for a while, so I did a bit of a sit-down-and-study sesh with colour theory. It's not completely there yet, but my palette feels way more intentional now. Hope you like the difference!

Happy 1-year Anniversary everybody! <3

I'm currently going through a bit of a mild burnout with a lot of my art right now, but I wanted to make sure to mark this occasion with a bit of art. APOC has been in some sort of development since 2010, and putting up consistent updates for a whole year, and sharing the story with you as it goes along has been so fulfilling I can't describe it.

Some of you have been reading from the beginning, some of you just found this webcomic last week. But from the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading. If it makes at least one of you look forward to the next update every week, then it's a job well done.

@>~<: Nope! Some of the letters have been mirrored/are upside down, so it's easier to guess the meaning, but some of the symbols that correspond to their letters are completely different. Basically I wanted to make the cipher enough for people to try and guess, but not enough to be completely obvious.

@INKYLORE: No, that's right! I've tried to make most of the letters similar to the real counterparts, others are there to throw you off, but that's it. :)

@INKYLORE: It's a cipher, but there are reasons it speaks the way it does right now. More will be revealed later, but feel free to take a shot at deciphering it. Rest assured it's nothing critically important to the storyline, so you're not missing anything huge. <3

I was originally going to write Clara as a stealthy character, but the more I designed her, I began to realise she can't be stealthy even if she tried. Well, at least not right now. Black eyes and a scythe? You're lucky not to get arrested.
Also I'm so hyped to finally be debuting this new character. I've been waiting months for this.

That feeling when you're trying to walk away from all your problems, but then new problems just bump into you. Who's this pink-haired stranger...?

Two things to clarify here in case it's not been clear enough before now:
- Clara can't understand this thing. The language it's speaking is something that no-one has ever heard of before.
- No-one else can see this thing either. Poor old Clara is like a madwoman, and she's probably getting very tired of the fact.

...every time I draw a new page I'm like, "Poor Clara, smh". I haven't been kind to her in the script. :(

Who knew that walking around with a scythe in London isn't such a stealthy tactic after all...?

Two protagonists meet! The puns begin!
Also excuse the mess of this page, I could have planned this way better, but making web-comics is a huge learning curve!

@Mr. Incubus: Hah, it is hard! But I'm making APOC (along with another webcomic and other projects) my full-time job, so I have time in the day to make the pages. It's still difficult to keep up with though, depending on the amount of detail per page.
