If you think that the pages get done faster by doing the lettering by hand, then I say do it. The lettering doesn't look much different when you just write it out, and it's readable, so you do whichever you think is easiest.
The panel placement makes it a bit difficult to understand which you should read first. Generally, if panels are the same height, you read across, but these are all at different levels and similar widths, which makes it hard to know what comes first.
Yeah, I'm not a big fan of those noses either. For noses, the less lines, the better. They're difficult to draw, and if you put too much emphasis on them, they become very funny looking.
