Ohh that's not entirely true, Tifa... =)

Compilation Catch-Up - DoC:
The World Regenesis Organization, or WRO, is an organization founded and run by Reeve Tuesti, who was (technically) part of the protagonist team in FF7. The WRO is dedicated to rebuilding the world that Meteorfall and ShinRa destroyed. In DoC, Vincent was kind of recruited as their special warrior when Reeve asked him to help investigate the overnight disappearance of 1000 people from Lower Junon, and the game's Big Bad ended up being behind it. Still, Vincent was technically working for the WRO throughout DoC, and the main point here is that the WRO is against ShinRa—and they are allies of Tifa, thus her indignation.

Compilation Catch-Up - FF7:
ShinRa is the evil corporation/government that the main heroes of FF7 were fighting against in the beginning of the game, before they realized that Sephiroth and Jenova were the real enemies. ShinRa is basically greedy capitalism. The guy who was in charge of ShinRa, Rufus ShinRa, is still around and has people working for him personally but ShinRa has very little power now.

Compilation Catch-Up - FF7:
Materia is what people in the world of Gaia use to cast magic spells. They're little round orbs of crystalized liquid that flows through the planet and carries souls and stuff. Yuffie is obsessed with materia, which is why Marlene is reminded of Yuffie when she sees the materia cart.

It's at the top of the page.

Compilation Catch-Up - DoC:
If you've played FF7 but not DoC then this huge crystal might confuse you. In FF7, Vincent finds Lucrecia alive in this cave after he believed her to be dead, and then if he/you return after that, she is gone but Vincent receives his Chaos Limit Break and Death Penalty gun in the spot where she was standing/crouching before. Well, in DoC, she's entombed in this giant materia crystal (not unlike Sephiroth's real body toward the end of Final Fantasy 7, when the WEAPONs are released?). I assume they retconned the part about her being completely gone—or, at least, for the purposes of Redemption, that is the retcon: Vincent found her alive in the cave, spoke with her, and then the next time he returned she was entombed in this crystal instead. I'm not sure whether or not we're supposed to believe that he found Cerberus (the fancy super gun they made for him in his new design) instead of Death Penalty, but I guess him being able to transform into Chaos only after speaking with Lucrecia still jives with the new canon.

Sorry this page looks a little different. It was made with a different program after something happened to my computer and I lost Photoshop for a little while.

Compilation Catch-Up - FF7:
Sephiroth, the main villain of FF7, is Lucrecia's son. Lucrecia was a scientist, and Sephiroth became what he was as a result of experiments that Lucrecia allowed/participated in while he was in her womb. Sephiroth was taken from her immediately after birth and Lucrecia was never allowed to participate in his life or even hold him. For this reason, Lucrecia alluded to having made attempts to kill herself in FF7.

Compilation Catch-Up - FF7/AC:
The two characters highlighted on the right are Tifa and Marlene. Marlene is the adopted daughter of one of the other main playable characters in FF7 (Barret) but Tifa has always had a big role in raising her. Marlene was staying with Tifa and Cloud in AC and for the purposes of Redemption she still is.

Compilation Catch-Up - DoC:
This is how he was shown sitting in this environment a few times in DoC, particularly in his dreams of speaking with Lucrecia.

Compilation Catch-Up - FF7:
This is the outside of Lucrecia's cave. It's located in the middle of the Western Continent.

And yeah, I kinda goofed a bit on planning out how fast Galian Beast could probably travel in one evening, but let's just forgive me for it and move on.
With this scene complete, and the line featured on this page, the premise for "Redemption" has finally been set up!

"I want to try." Cue story. ONWARD!

So you know what just gets to me way more than it should? That hand that's oh so tenderly touching hers? Is his gun hand. Yeah, that's the hand that he kills people with. But with her, it's loving and gentle. D':

God I'm a sucker for this pairing.

Vincent's thoughts are in Dali.

Compilation Catch-Up - FF7:
Vincent does a lot of talking about personal sins and his guilt for "letting Lucrecia die." (Of course, he finds out later that she's not actually dead.)
———————————————

———————————————
Compilation Catch-Up - AC:
In Advent Children, Cloud asks Vincent for advice: "Can sins ever be forgiven?" Vincent replies, "I don't know. I've never tried." The shocking part about this is that with all the talking Vincent does about his sins and atonement and everything, he's never even tried to earn any forgiveness. He just mopes and feels sorry for himself.

———————————————
Compilation Catch-Up - DoC:
In Dirge of Cerberus, Lucrecia does some talking about her own sins—against her son (Sephiroth), against Vincent, and against Vincent's father, Grimoire Valentine, who was also a scientist that Lucrecia worked with before she knew Vincent. Lucrecia contributed to the accident that caused his death, and forever harbored guilt about this which prevented her from allowing a relationship with Vincent.
———————————————

One of my watchers on deviantART wanted to know what they were looking up at and the answer is nothing... Vincent is looking at her, and she's just...looking upward.
———————————————
Compilation Catch-Up - DoC:
Throughout Dirge of Cerberus, Vincent had several recurring dreams of Lucrecia inside this cave. In most of the dreams, she tries to speak to him but can't. The only thing he can make out is "I'm so sorry" before he wakes up. In the last dream/vision he has, she actually says quite a lot (coming close to confessing her love for him), but he is unable to move until the very end, after she disappears. At the end of the game, after the final battle yada yada, he goes to this cave in person (where she is entombed inside a crystal) and speaks to her unconscious, entombed body in person, saying: "Thank you... It was you. You were the reason I...survived."

Hey, this should look familiar!

Obviously, this is actually shamelessly recycled a drawing I did a while back, found here. As you can see, it's dated June 9, 2008, and apparently I've improved a lot since then, because the art here looks like shit after the last few pages. But actually, that makes me happy. =) I'm just sorry for giving you shit art.

Not sorry enough to redraw it, however! But maybe when I draw another full color piece for Redemption I'll update my banner.
Compilation Catch-Up - FF7:
This is Lucrecia, the lady that Vincent is in love with.

Our story's heroine. :D :D :D
Poor Vincent's bed is cold.

(...volunteers? xD )

While most men his age are suffering from moderate baldness, Vincent suffers from his hair GROWING at the nonsensical whims of his artist. (That may or may not be all that tends to grow at the whims of the artist.)
