This is the start of a new story arc, if you couldn't tell. This one lasts a bit and carries us over into volume 2 (which I should now be thinking about digging out of my storage bin of old art stuff).
At this point I started taking a lot of stylistic influence from Angelic Layer, of all things. (You've got to respect CLAMP's versatility of style, though.)

Remember when we used to do that with our favorite stuffed animals?
I had a blanket I wouldn't let my mom get rid of, even when it decomposed into more of a collection of rags tied in knots to keep them together.
...Come to think of it, I really wonder what people thought when they saw me carrying that thing around.

Also, as you've probably noticed, I was really floundering trying to come up with reasonable explanations for why Duo is getting up before dawn to go to the deli. I think the narrative would have flowed a lot smoother if I had just attributed the driving action to the fact that Duo often does things just to do them.
