Comment on Kitchen Maid Adaptive Hand Prosthetic of Rococo and Vivian
magi, 11 Jan 2010 06:00 pm
"There is something brutal about the fact that this girl has a detachable hand." My life drawing professor said something along that lines when I turned a character sheets of Rococo in as part of a sketch book assignment.

Rococo isn't just wearing a power glove, its actually a mechanical prosthetic. This sort of suggests that at some point, her hand must have been cut off, and she is rather blasé about it, swapping it around for different utilities. >.>

Comment on WTF of Rococo and Vivian

Sort of blah, I can't seen to finish this page at all, what's up with that. Its done in pencil for now. >w<;;
I try updating as often as possible, but sometimes I just can't get to it. :I

<b> Jazeki :</b> Hey thanks for the comment. ^^;; I think regular update schedule is pretty important if you want to promote something like this. :/ Although since right now I am jobless, it really comes down to my own laziness. >.>;

Ahahah, its not exactly a ribbon, although you'll see what its like in the coming pages. :3

<b> HunterKirizaki:</b> Hey, thanks for the comment. :3

<b> Loom: </b> Hey thanks for the comment. ;3 Yeah, I am thinking of making Ruby into gradient into black. Although Rococo's Belt is going to be black, her ribbon shouldn't be. >.> Its pink. <.<;;

Ahahah, I know what you mean, although I think its important that I hold myself accountable. >.>

Originally, Rococo is the main character. although right now the POV is Vivian. The plan was to create a character that people can relate to and use this character to "explore" another character. Although I am getting the feeling that Rococo is being sideline, so to speak. like what happened to index in Toaru Majutsu no Index half way through the story. Vivian has become much more prominent as a character then I intended, but she isn't a particularly interesting character by many accounts. >.> So I am thinking maybe I am not structuring this thing very well.

The current plan is that the two characters and their relationships with each other will be the main focus of the story once the whole introduction thing is settling down (wtf, 1 chapter done and no introductions? ) Anyway, I'll try to make it so that juxtaposition between the two character's narrative and experiment.

I started working on character initially called Rococo Linda (rococo didn't use to be her first name, but rather a title) about a year and half ago. Her initial iteration is very different from the current design. Although there are certain element the current incarnation retains.
<img src="http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g265/feitian_2006/RococoDeluxe-03_A-1.jpg" ; width="450"/>

Her original name was derivative from another magical girl-esque character from a game by squaresoft back in the day call "Thread of Fate" or "Dew Prism" her name is "Fancy Mel". That isn't as clever as I originally thought. Although later iteration of Rococo starting to take on other significance as I starting put work into her back story. The name "Feathersworth" is rather significant in terms of the idea of the character and her background.

<b>Jazeki:</b> I try to have something interesting in the author's comment section. Thank you for following along. :3

<b>Loom: </b> Thanks for the assurance. :3

To be honest, I think if the reason that Vivian is doing this for her mom, that is okay too, but the distinction is that she would be the one making the choice rather then being pressure to do so, that is more central to the point of what Rococo is trying to say. Although if want to add all the nuances into a speech like that, it'll take forever. I am just not a straightforward person like that.

<b> Jazeki:</b> Thank you for the help, I appriciate it. You might need to refresh the page to see the corrected version. :3 Man, I really suck at this English thing. >w<;
Note: Original Version can be found here:

<b> Loom : </b> Ahahaha, I know what you mean. Although generally I don't over use it as shading, its mainly to denote color. <.<; Although it is good to balance the composition.

Sorry, no comic tonight. I was just finishing up the lay out and parts of the penciling as I upload this. It seems that I get further and further behind as I work on it. :(

This guy should resemble certain character.

Didn't quite make it. I didn't even have time to put it in OpenCanvas, Something about this page its just a pain. -w-;;

<b>Amante-kun:</b> Hmm I understand your concern. Although shading on toning lines is a more of a textured that I am going for, at the moment unsuccessful, as usual. Although I get what you mean about the lines on her dress though. I'll be careful next time.

<b> Jazeki:</b> hey thanks for the comment, although I don't think what she have to say is particularly interesting. :S

<b> Loom : </b> I wonder, ahaha. ^^;; Although I don't think it'll be too difficult to dress up as Rococo.

I know what you mean, I was experimenting with sort of montage, I guess I failed. Although it give me a lot of chance to draw Rococo. :3

Should have probably looked for some sort of reference when it comes to drawing food. Its hard to make something look palatable

<b>taboo:</b> Hey thank you for the comment. :3 You are very good yourself. :D

<b> Jazeki: </b> Ahaha, when it comes to stuff that she has made before, Rococo is pretty good once she gets the method right. Although when she <i>experiments </i> its generally hit and miss. Now my goal is to make something look delicious. >:3

<b>Amante-kun:</b> Well, she basically having Sea Food fried rice in-cased in steamed lobster that has it meat set-aside with dipping sauce. As for Vivian, she is has regular egg fried rice with shrimps.

<b> Loom: </b> Thanks for the endorsement. :3

Rococo, the name sake of this comic made her triumphant return after so many pages. Q_Q LOL, since which incarnation did I made it into more about Vivian then Rococo. O.O;;

I can't believe how long this page too me.
<a href="http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g265/feitian_2006/Rococo%20Express/01_015.jpg " target="_blank"><img src="http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g265/feitian_2006/Rococo%20Express/01_015.jpg& quot; width="300" /></a>

People who have seen me on Tokyopop might get a dajavu, since this is a version of the first chapter from a previous incarnation of the story. The way chapter flows is slightly differently, and basically Vivian Opens up to Ruby to her and her mother's problem, it was changed because I think Vivian doesn't know Ruby well enough to make this talk.

To start this chapter, I started by making a 1/4 sized outline after I have done some writings.
<img src="http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g265/feitian_2006/outline_chapter2_page1_4.jpg " />
This will be a generally simplified version of how the lay out and the panel is going to be, in both placement of the text bubbles and character/framing. Although in general I make adjustment as I go.

After that, I'll make a full size Pencil drawing and import it into the Manga studio. This is the longest part of this process. For one reason or another, for this particular page the penciling and inking with manga studio take upward of 6 hours.

After I have put in the text and some preliminary toning/shading, I'll export it to OpenCanvas and make gradient and other adjustment that's easier to do in OC. After that its pretty much done, and I upload it here.

<b> Jazeki : </b> Hey thanks. :D Well, she is the main character after all, sort of... lol.

<b> Loom: </b> Hey, thanks for the comment. :3
