Hi there ^_^

I'm a freelance comicker with past and present projects including: Vampire Academy (Penguin books), Avalon Chronicles (Oni press), Alex Rider (Walker books), Young Avengers #14 (Marvel) and my own series, Dragon Heir (sweatdrop) - as seen here on Smackjeeves.

Most of my work is for publishers these days. However, I still love making comics for myself when I can! BREAKS is an independent title that I'm creating in my spare time along with co-creator, Malin Ryden. It means a lot to us and we hope you like it ^_^

@IronDog: Aww you are so welcome. It really has been years, eh? It's kind of amazing how the time has gone. I hope your own processing is going well, and yes - it's always nice to read a story that reminds us we can all make mistakes and find a way to reconcile with them. ^_^
@portisHeart: haha - he'll just have to keep it as a quirky boxer name :D
Olive branch is right, @IronDog! And we're so glad everyone is breathing a sigh of relief. this scene could have played out very different without the growth these boys have experienced, and the fact that Ian is there at all!
Wow - some great discussion on this scene. Closure is a funny thing to empathise with, I know, but it's always good to remember that we're all different and our needs are different. Harvey is someone who has responded to his own attack by taking such control over his life, down to how neatly his pencils are lined up...in his mind though, no lining up of pencils is going to make his path neater. He needs it uncluttered and behind him. Both what he did AND what was done to him.
thanks for all being so amazing and engaged and able to chat about this :)
New scene! And we're straight into the day of Cortland's match. eeeee!

Talking of exciting things, I'll be at the MCM Expo this coming weekend, guys. I'll be on table CV87 in the comic village, in a row with my friends Kit Buss, Fez Baker, Robin Hoelzemann, and Widdershins. Swing by the table if you want to talk BREAKS, Life is Strange, Olivia Twist or wotnot...and maybe even pick up one of the limited sketch cover issue 7s of BREAKS ^_^
I'll also be on two panels: One at 3:15 Saturday, discussing video game comics, and one at 5:15 Sunday, talking Doctor Who.
Hope to see some of you there!

How darned proud can we feel of our boys here, eh? Cortland: the firebrand - has listened, is digesting, is hurting - but is going for a pro-active approach. He's thinking positively and showing Ian just what an impact he's made too. And Ian...Ian has listened, supported silently and resisted butting in and potentially igniting a volatile situation. The pair of them have taken a pretty huge step here. Whatever mistakes Harvey has made, he should feel pretty proud of the space he bought Cortland to become who he's growing into.
So - con season is nearly at a close. Just MCM to go! eeeee, MCM London, weekend after next, is a beast of a show and I'll be sharing a row in the comic village with good friends: Robin, Kit, Fez and Kate - so I'm looking forward to it. How many of you are planning on heading along? Remember, after that, I'll be able to look at offering online sales for the issue 7 limited sketch cover :)
And lastly - a huge thank you to my new patrons this week if you're reading here! You guys make me so happy and motivated. Honestly, if every BREAKS subscriber gave me just $1, I could probably fund half a year's work on BREAKS. The power of many. As it is, I know it's just not possible for everyone, but let's all show some love to those heroes who keep this comic going! *scatters confetti* xx

So there we go! Is Harvey being crazy or can we understand a need for closure and neatness for him? It's an insanely difficult situation to empathise with, and as for Connie - blimey - how is she coping with this? 0_O
*throws hands in the air* Hell, we wrote this thing and we still find the complicated brain-tangling emotions a lot to handle. Poor characters x
So - in my continuing convention tour, I'll be in Kendal, Cumbria this weekend at the Lakes Comic Arts Festival! I'm presenting the opening debate on Friday night (which should be a laugh!), doing an hour's session in the wacom cafe at the brewery on saturday morning (for casual chat time, come say hi!) and doing a one hour signing session with Page45 in their lovely pop-up comic shop in the clocktower between 1-2pm Sunday. I hope to see some of you there, guys!
And thanks to any of you who watched my wacom youtube episode too - somehow we've been watched by 24,000 people! Oh my goodness! That's an intimidating amount of people watching me say 'um' and 'like' a lot :D

@Le9: This is a great word-vomit and a perfect observation, yeah! Complex is the word! And then we have to wonder...should harvey need to come forward? is it just too much for him to keep pretending - to anyone? It's hard to imagine ourselves in his position! 0_O

@Jeanettert: there are so many levels at play. We have to remember that Cortland was a very different person when this all happened...and that he'd trated Harvey terribly too. ON some level, maybe Harvey thought the responsibility would change his brother...but then years passed :( And yesssss, we need some dumb Ian jokes, right? x

@portisHeart: It's a fascinating situation from an academic POV. Lots of ways to view it and I had so many discussions with people as I was writing this particular string of the story. And then of course Malin's inclusion of Ian's angle on things made it complete!

Happy Monday, you luvverly lot.
Or, you know, not so happy if you're one of the Hunt brothers or a certain Tanner caught in the middle of this moment.
That said, you get the feeling that this whole scene could have gone a whole lot worse if Cortland was still the same boy Harvey made the choice to become a guardian of...

How are everyone's hearts doing? x

@portisHeart: Don't you worry - it's a fine reaction! After all, this entire comic is about the fallibility of characters. x
