Under the Rose Garden is about a young man named Jaakko Sladokiv who awakens on the cold pebbled shoreline of Wales. What happened to him prior to this is a memory he'd rather not revisit, but he finds his way to an old manor where an elderly widower by the name of Nicholas lives alone and asks for him help and shelter. Upon his stay, Jaakko incidentally kills the man. Nicholas was extremely reclusive, however. Those in the nearby town of Brookmire had never really seen him or knew anything about him so no one suspects a thing when Jaakko decides to claim to have inherited the house from the old man. He buries the body out in the rose garden and chooses to take up a new false and sinful life here, keeping the dark secret of why he came buried deeper than Nicholas, away from the prying eyes of those who visit by chance and those Jaakko is fearfully expecting.
