Might be getting a variation of that pharmacy bot?
(Got two on the same page, got a one-off that I thought I could get rid of just by doing the usual delete/block)

EDIT: The spam comment posting is small but seems to be very persistent.

Yet another victim of the PharmX bot. "Good info Very nice site!" Every day I find at least one new comment like this under this page of my comic, it's really obnoxious...

Yep. The bots are getting pretty advanced now. That wave has been dealt with but it won't be long until we won't have any choice but to use a captcha for guests.

Spambots can beat captcha just as quickly as anything else, except captchas will annoy humans even more than the spambots do xP
How about doing something like what Topwebcomics does? On TWC, you're presented with a labelled character image and have to select the character's name from a small list to proceed. There's a large number of options so the bot can't just try every option once and be sure to get in. Sure, the bot has a 1/3 chance of getting in with a random guess, but this is an odd enough system that it should keep bots out longer than captcha will simply because it's not likely that anyone will go out of their way to program their bot to handle this. People submit the images in the hopes that they might get people curious about their comics.

SJ already has a huge bank of labelled images, so you don't even need to ask people to submit them! Comic banners. Not every banner features legible text, but these could be filtered out by hand (I'd be willing to help), and you could also provide an option that lets the user request a new banner and set of options without punishing them (while selecting wrong would prevent them from posting for a few minutes). This would enhance the visibility of individual comics (especially if the pool of banners is restricted to comics that have updated within the past month), as well as provide a way to filter out bots.

Maybe I should've posted this in Suggestions, oops.

Got my first spam comments in a while again, on the same page 120, by JOHNF394. Two of them a minute apart from each other, hope this is just a oneshot. Also, the Polish fake user accounts keep faving the comic, slowly but steadily. It's all very odd.

Must be "related" to the aforementioned "Johns."

The user doesn't seem to appear in my stats, and it's not a registered SJ user but rather a guest. So I'm just going to delete the post.

Want to report this before it gets out of hand. I see where this is going and know its only going to get worse before it gets better.

Fairly certain its just one person making multiple accounts.

http://8bitblankworld.smackjeeves.com/c ... ed-punchy/
starts on that page, and just keeps going with more and more accounts posting. Each page is now having it happen

http://8bitblankworld.smackjeeves.com/c ... al-person/
http://8bitblankworld.smackjeeves.com/c ... ad-lexi06/
http://8bitblankworld.smackjeeves.com/c ... y-to-fall/
http://8bitblankworld.smackjeeves.com/c ... ve-lexi06/
http://8bitblankworld.smackjeeves.com/c ... ss-part-2/

Between the "scooby doo" and the "metal gear" based accounts, its just getting worse each day.

Comic itself isn't that great to begin with, heck even I am starting to hate it due to some of the stuff going on there. Sure know it needs some serious cleanup in a few regards, but its never fun to see someone or some people spamming like this. Would just like it if it stopped, preferably before we see much more of this trollish behavior. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Oh and I have taken the liberty of taking some screenshots, in case the comments "suddenly disappear"

Wow, that was different than what I was expecting. I thought that comic authors could ban commenters and delete comments? Is there only one author who has those permissions and they haven't been around and haven't seen the comments?

If Admin doesn't see your post here in this thread, send him a PM. He's the only one who can take care of stuff on the comics side of the site. I forget if it's already been stated in the thread but us mods can only do stuff on the forums.

i'm here to explain that we're not one person. We're actually like 6 people who regularly use the site. and some are also on Mastermind9's webcomic. This was all meant as a small summer prank.

Deleting comments and blocking people from commenting might work, but if one is determined then what is to stop them from making a hundred more accounts just to spam. Thank you though for your response mitchellbravo.

As for what was just said above me, if that is true then this can easily be solved by stopping with this. It might have been fun for you, but from my point of view all I saw was someone trolling the pages. Great fun yes, for you maybe, but my concern was that this would grow into something much worse then what I had currently seen. If the comments stop, great, then no action needs to be taken in that case. All can then be forgiven and we can all move on.

If it keeps up, then something has to be done. I don't like it, but I don't want the comic and comments section degenerating any further then it already has. As I said, my concern was it was just one person being a troll, and asking them to stop or preventing those accounts from commenting would only make it worse.

Should I just delete them? There's no malicious links right now but I'd rather not leave them there.
