Suggestions & Feedback Posting Guidelines
The purpose of this board is to allow community members to suggest new features or changes to be added to Smack Jeeves. Even if you aren't sure of a specific solution, but you recognize the need for an improvement, point it out!

Before Posting
Please browse/search the forum to make sure your suggestion hasn't already been made by someone else. If you find an idea similar to yours, post your contributing thoughts to that thread. Don't start a new thread unless your idea is significantly different from existing suggestions.

Rules

    1) Use a descriptive title when making a suggestion or pointing out the need for improvement.

    2) Describe the problem / solution in detail. First, explain why there is a problem or a need for a new feature to begin with. Then, describe your proposed solution (if you have one) clearly and effectively.

    3) Respect others' ideas. If you disagree with someone else's ideas or suggestions, respectfully and factually state why. While debate over different solutions is fine, insults or personal attacks will not be tolerated.

Sticky System
Suggestions that have been approved and chosen for implementation by the development team will be stickied. When development begins on an idea, that topic will be moved to the New Features & Changes in Progress board.

Add Google Analytics to mobile pages

Postby bomango » April 8th, 2018, 2:58 pm

Because the mobile pages have no editable templates, there's no place to put the necessary snippet for Google Analytics and therefore we can't track mobile users on Bomango.net and only desktop users.

Can we please have at least one editable section for mobile to accommodate this? The necessary JavaScript code's supposed to go in the HEAD element btw. No offense to the built-in analytics but they aren't going to provide information like referrers.

If you have Google's java code inside the HEAD section of your overall template, then it works just fine, regardless of what page a reader visits, or how they view it.

Unfortunately this is entirely not the case. If you put your browser into mobile device emulation mode, navigate to a SmackJeeves comic page then view the page source, you'll see that it uses none of the template code you can customize for desktops and that especially applies to anything you'd put into HEAD. Mobile SJ is a closed black box and while I understand why some of that is from a web development perspective, it's perhaps too locked down.

Hmm, weird. I watch my live analytics feed and see desktop, mobile, and tablet traffic just fine.

Makes me wonder if there's a configuration issue.

Does your website use the SJ mobile reader, or did you adjust your own template to be mobile-friendly?

Yes.

Make sure that SmackJeeves Mobile is enabled and double check that your Google API code is between the HEAD and /HEAD tags.

Since there is no actual page load but an image replace thing, GA may not pick up on this. In the same way ads are not shown in any practical manner, because they are designed to intersect after x number of pages loading.

Maybe it can really sense new images being loaded anyway though, and my mobile traffic is simply as low as GA tells me.
