I need help working out some kinks in the Classic theme

Postby HMR Creations » July 12th, 2018, 4:00 pm

Hi guys!

I recently rediscovered Smackjeeves and decided to start hosting my comic on here, and I made a nice little site using the Classic theme. I'm almost done, and I'm happy with how it looks, but I have a couple of things that I want to tweak before I start posting links everywhere.

Firstly, I can't find out how to change the color of the title for news posts. I've tried everything I could to make it the same shade of green as all of the other text, but no matter what I did to mess with the CSS, nothing's changed. I don't know what override causes that to change color. Here's an image of what I'm talking about:

Second, I also want to change the color of the navigation arrows on comic pages, like these:

Lastly, I want to change the hover color on all of the links that aren't in the navigation bar. All of the links that aren't in the nav bar are this red color that doesn't fit with my site's color scheme at all. Here's the link so you can see what I'm talking about: http://reaperbros.smackjeeves.com/

I'm honestly lost here. What do I do? :?

I'm going to move this to the Template Development & Support forum, as that's the usual place for template questions.

News title text:
Code: Select all
.news .post-title {
   color: whatever;
}

Link color on cover:
Code: Select all
a:hover {
   color: whatever;
}

The navigation arrows are PNG images, so if you want to change their colour, you'll have to make and upload new ones. You could probably find SVG ones online and use those, that would let you set their colour via CSS. You could use CSS filters to change the colour, but that's not a great idea since support is inconsistent and it wastes the reader's CPU cycles.

Using Chrome? Great. Here's a tip.

Right click the element whose styling you want to change and click "Inspect".

So for example, the first element in question is styled by the following selector:

Code: Select all
.news .post-title

I just tried that, and nothing happened.

Maybe I'm putting the code in the wrong place? I'm pasting it in the Overall Layout.

The code's in the right place, but the { right above the new CSS should be a }. That error is making the rest of the CSS not get applied!

Edit: Also, the inspection tools in Admin's post above exist in Firefox too. You can right-click the element you want to style, and then click "Inspect element". In the CSS sidebar, you can find the CSS selector for it.
