I edited the Top Banner V2 layout for my TBoaA comic so that it will automatically accomadate double-sized pages, but it's been a long time since I'd looked at it... I think I'd pulled a few different tricks with the overall layout and other template pages.

But, the first thing I would do would be to change this:

Code: Select all
   #main {

   background:#fff;

   color:#000;

   border:0;

   padding:5px 15px 5px 15px;

   width:670px;

   font-size:0.75em;

   }

Since your pages are 757px width, change the "width:670px;" code until it fits better. Perhaps something more like 727px.
There's two places the number 702 is used. Change this number by the same amount you changed the 670 number. If you made 670 into 727, change 702 to 759.
Next, to center the banner at the top, add "text-align: center;" to #header, like this (though, it would be better to change the header to a matching size - 757px for my example):

Code: Select all
   #header {

   background:#000;

   text-align: center;
   }

See if that helps.

This guide should give you most of what you need to know to make/modify templates (except the requisite HTML knowledge - you'll have to learn that elsewhere, but there are many resources online).
Making a banner is unrelated to templates. You'll need to have some sort of image editing program such the Photoshop or the GIMP, and learn to use it (again, tutorials are available elsewhere).

My comic images are generally big, really big, so i want to adjust them in the pag, like:

if image.height >600
resize= 400

something like that

but i don't know how to write the code with the variables {image.fomatted}
{imege.height} and width

if there's no solution i think i'll just resize them in my computer before uploading them.
anyway thanks :D

You should resize them on your own computer. Aside from saving you the trouble of having to make Javascript code to resize them, it'll also reduce the loading time for your readers.

For anyone still curious about that:

Code: Select all
<!-- BEGIN latest_comic -->
<a href="{latest_comic.URL}" title="{latest_comic.TITLE}"><img src="{latest_comic.THUMBNAIL_IMG_SRC}" alt="{latest_comic.TITLE}" /></a>
<!-- END latest_comic -->

Make sure you include those BEGIN and END tags. latest_comic is a loop (with just one element), not a variable, so it needs to have the begin and end tags for latest_comic.whatever to work.

First of all, I would like to appologize. I only had the patience to read up to page 6 to find a solution to my problem, and couldn't continue.

Secondly, I will post the address to my site here as I don't even know how to embed a URL link in this message: talesoftra.smackjeeves.com

Thirdly, the problem: I would like to modify a few things using the Kingsley template until I really get into my comic. The problems I want to fix are A) I would like to take Victor B and Kyra out of the menu. B) I would like to then link those two custom pages to the Character list found in (what I thought was) the menu on the left. C) I know this makes me sound stupid for the next 5 minutes, but what's the news feed page for exactly?

So far, I linked my sites as follows:
Code: Select all
<a href="www.talesoftra.smackjeeves.com/VictorB">Victor B</a>

which ends up with what I call an empty link (not sure if that's the actual name) leading to nowhere, despite it clearly stating a destination. These results occur within the custom page's content as well as that side menu.

I tried, after reading some posts on this forum:
Code: Select all
<a href={SITE-KYRA-FULL}>Kyra the dog</a>
<a href="{SITE-VictorB-FULL}">Victor B</a>

but that just errased my links.

Please, if anyone can, please help!

Add an http:// before the www and that should do the trick.

As for putting a link here in the forums, when you're composing the message you see a button up near the bold italics underline etc. that reads "url." Click that and it will deposit one of these bad boys
Code: Select all

in your text.
Then just fill it up with whatever you want:
Code: Select all
Whatever whatever whatever

Someone else should be along shortly to help you with your template.

Hi VictorB,

A: Go to "Page Design / Appearance" and click "Menu." Remove those two hyperlinks and save it.

B: Your HTML is incorrect. Use this:

Code: Select all
<a href="http://talesoftra.smackjeeves.com/VictorB/">Victor B</a><br>
<a href="http://talesoftra.smackjeeves.com/kyra/">Kyra The Dog</a>

C: The news section's for any announcements you want to make about your webcomic. If you don't feel like using it, you can remove it from the menu using the method listed above in response to "A."

Also:

Code: Select all
<a href="www.talesoftra.smackjeeves.com/VictorB">Victor B</a>

isn't a valid link because it has two subdomains -- "www" and "talesoftra." The correct link would be http://talesoftra.smackjeeves.com/VictorB.

And:

Code: Select all
<a href={SITE-KYRA-FULL}>Kyra the dog</a>

One, links must be inside quotation marks, and two, use a URL when you link to custom pages.

Anything else?

@ mitchellbravo and LibertyCabbage: Thank you for all your help so far. Here is where I am at now:

a) This is my menu code.
Code: Select all
      <ul>

      <!-- BEGIN links -->

      <li><a href="{links.URL}">{links.TEXT}</a>&nbsp;-&nbsp;</li>

      <!-- END links -->

      <li><a href="http://www.smackjeeves.com/favorites.php?add={SITE_ID}">+Favs</a></li>

       </ul>

How will I change that to remove two options?

B)Thank you for your link help. I guess I tried everything but changing the www. to http. However, in the custom pages, I am still getting the same problem

On Victor B page, I get:
Code: Select all
<b><U>Relationships:</u></b><br>
<a href:"http://talesoftra.smackjeeves.com/kyra">Kyra the dog</a>: Master

And on Kyra's page, I get:
Code: Select all
<b><u>Relationships</u></b><br>
<a href:"http://talesoftra.smackjeeves.com/VictorB.html">Victor B</a>: Master

Yes, I know that I have master written down both ways, but I am concerned about the formatting.

EXTRA: I would still like to know if I can dedicate two SJ sites to the same comic (just one in a different language) or how I would have a translated site.

I look forward to the reply as you have been so helpful up to date!

VictorB wrote:How will I change that to remove two options?

You have to replace the automatically generated code code (the BEGIN links until the END links stuff) with hard-coded menu code. You can grab the URLs you need from the menu it generates on your site as-is. When/if you add more custom pages, you'll have to add those manually. For the latest page link, you can use "{SITE_URL}comics/" which will always go to the newest page. Everything else can be safely hard-coded.

<a href: is not valid HTML. You want <a href= instead.

EXTRA: I would still like to know if I can dedicate two SJ sites to the same comic (just one in a different language) or how I would have a translated site.

Just make a new comic profile, copy+paste the template stuff (you'll have to change anything you hard-coded, like the menu), recreate the extra pages with your translated text, etc. There's no automatic tool to do this, you'll have to do lots of copy+pasting. You'll also need to upload the translated comic pages.
If you're asking what the SJ policy on that is: it's perfectly fine! Just make a new profile for each new language. It might help to put the link to the alternate version(s) in each of the profiles so if someone finds one version, they can know that there's another, perhaps they might prefer that language.

Like eishiya said, this is fine! I can think of a number of comics that do that here- probably the most notable would be My Life With Fel (which updates todos los domingos :P
