I just had a vision

Postby Loserwhoeatspoptarts » October 19th, 2019, 1:10 pm

Today I woke up with a vision

As I slumbered last night I’ve seem to have made something interesting in my sleep. I have made an (IMO) interesting story but I can only remember major plot lines. Here it is.

Devil son
Devil son realizes he has powers
Devil son goes to underworld arena and is a paid mercenary with dads last name.
Father confronts son about it. Son confesses.
Father teaches his son how to control his power. And teaches son a different way of life. Father becomes demon king. Son tries to work for father , and father refuses. Big argument. Son is banished from underworld. Time passes. Civil war breaks out. The fathers back is to the wall. Father’s enemy speaks his sons name. The banishment curse is broken. Son rushes to the underworld stronger than ever.

I know it is a bit rubbish now but if I , give this story some background, introduce characters, and just give the story some life I think I have a chance at a interesting piece.

But here’s the problem I can’t draw. If there is someone who thinks I have a good idea and is willing to work with me our friend ship will become great .

What exactly are you looking for? Do you have a script or at least an outline? How long will the comic be in pages? What format are you looking for? What style are you looking for? Just inks or full color? Will there be compensation for the artist? Will the artist have input on the story or no?

I would suggest at least building up your story a bit more beyond "I had a dream last night" before seeking out an artist. Do some world building. Plot out the story. Make sure it's something you want to dedicate several years to making.

To be honest I’m currently writing the story , and I was intending to work with someone who had more knowledge on these things because this would be my first time doing anything like this.

I can't speak for all artists, but it's a pretty tall order to ask an artist to take on that much. I strongly advise going to youtube and just searching "how to start a comic" or something similar. Or "how to write a comic." Because there is a lot more that goes into it than just having an idea for a story. I've been doing comics for over a decade, so here's some tidbits on what you'll need before an artist can even start working on anything:

- The plot. Not just a handful of sentences summarizing a dream, but a solid plan on where the story will go. You need a rough idea of how long it will be so the artist knows how long they're signing on for.

- The characters. How many there will be, what their names are, etc. At least the main ones.

- The world. World building on a story like this is absolutely vital. There's thousands upon thousands of stories dealing with demons out there, so you need to know the rules of your world and what it looks like.

- The style. This is probably the most important thing you will want to know in looking for an artist. If you give the same script to someone who draws wispy shoujo manga stuff and then to someone who draws like gritty 80s marvel comics, you're going to end up with completely different stories.

But most importantly: your own passion. Unless this is going to be a very short run, this is the sort of thing that will take years and years to produce. You will get very little attention, especially in the beginning, and there's no real revenue from it. I know that rush of a new idea is tempting, but let it simmer for a while.

Don't go to YouTube, but I agree. The biggest point is that if you don't know an artist personally who likes the project and wants to collaborate with you, you're going to have a hard time finding someone to put in this much work for free, which I'm assuming is the case since the only payment you've offered is friendship. I'm going to be even more of a downer and suggest you put this on a shelf. It sounds like a fine idea, but that's a big project, far too big for someone's first comic. If you want to get into making comics, start smaller and figure it out. It'll be a lot easier for you to find someone to draw a one or three-page comic than a whole long civil-war-in-hell epic. Making comics is a lot more complicated and time-consuming and soul-sucking than you realize.

I think you're getting into the dangerous mind-trap that your story has to be told through a comic medium. You have to remember that not all stories need to be told through comics. There's always the option of writing fiction, supplemented with illustrations here-and-there if you need pictures to go with the story.

Hmmmm, along these lines you could look into making a visual novel. There are plenty of easy programs you can make those with.
