The "Alive and Well" Notification Page

Sometimes, I see natural disasters or other horrible events taking place in areas that I know there are Smackjeevers living around (Tropical Storm Sandy, tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, you name it), and when this happens, I wonder about their well-being. On Sunday, a wildfire sparked north of my house (see vent thread) and an emergency notifications app on my phone notified me of it, and asked if I'd like to automatically send either a "call for help" or an "I'm okay" text to somebody. I thought the idea was cool, so I figured a thread to which one could post a short message letting folks know they've survived the flood/earthquake/shooting rampage/zombie apocalypse/etc. and/or post an update on the ongoing situation would be a sound idea. Pretty much, if you want to let everyone know you're alive, you now have a place to do so.

Currently, in my scenario, I'm okay; the wildfire near my house has been at least halted from moving further south by fire crews, while the winds changed direction and are pushing the fire north. Still at 0% containment. Lightning strikes sparked two more fires, but they're all to the north of the original fire. I'll update later if the scenario changes for the worse.

I like the idea of this thread, but stuff like this so rarely happens that it might not see a lot of activity.
Glad to hear you're okay, though.

I like the idea. We can also use the thread for "Where's so and so" if someone has been absent from the forums for a long time, to see if anybody has tabs on them.

Stay safe, Hank. That's terrifying.

Stay as safe as you can, Hank. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and I've asked my family to do the same. We're all thinking of you!

That's exactly what I was thinking. I remember when there were all those tornadoes/floods in the South and we were all worried about Molly-sama and others who lived down there. Then there was Hurricane Sandy, and we were wondering if all you East-Coasters were okay. I hope Seven Rain proves right and this thread doesn't see a lot of use, but it's here, just in case.

And thank you, everyone.

We had a Tornado Advisory by our house for about a half hour, they sent alerts to phones and everything. Nothing came of it. I'm alive and well.

My husband and I know that if something happens to one of us, the other will make a post to our respective communities. If something were to happen to both of us, you guys might be out of luck. :P (Worst case scenario, Hankins could message my family through Facebook?)

Clover vanished during the Steam Monster Summer Sale of 2015. RIP.

This is doable. I'm friends with a lot of Smackjeevers on FB, if something goes south, I could always do some digging to find out if someone is okay, no problem.

Earthquake about 50 miles from my house; I was at work when it happened (78 miles away). No damage, and nobody hurt that I know of. There are reports stating that it's either a 5.8 or a 6.2 on the Richter scale.

I know people were wondering about what happened to Marc. I was able to get in touch with him, and he is yes, alive, and yes, well. Why he left is why most people leave, he needs to focus on other aspects of his life that are more important, and spending so much time here and working on his comic were taking away from that.

I'll miss him, but everything's alright.

Really glad that everything's alright. You're right in that he'll definitely be missed, though his family and obligations are certainly what he should focus on. I wish him well in his future.

Sending much happiness and contentment your way, Marc! <3

That's good to hear but it's a bummer when people opt to delete their whole account when they leave. If he felt the amount of time he spent here was unhealthy and he needed to delete his account to avoid returning to "bad habits" of sorts, I get it, but I really wanted to read more of his comic. :C

Gonna miss him! I didn't get to know him well, but he was a great artist and a lot of fun to have around.
