Your Ideal Evening

Postby mitchellbravo » April 18th, 2017, 5:12 pm

Some delicious takeout, eaten while in pajamas.
An episode (or maybe two) of whichever shows I have saved on the DVR. (Tonight I'd really be down for some Murder She Wrote, but will be home too late for TV) A small glass of wine or maybe a cup of tea.
An hour or so of inspired, productive drawing. (Hey, I said ideal)
Read until very tired; somehow do all of this and still be lights out by 10.

How about you?
(No need to be semantic about timing, I realize for a lot of folks, the evening BEGINS at 10. )

10(or 22) is too early...

But ...the ideal evening would be...
Working on my comic and listen to heavy folk metal tunes or just some orchestral metal with a female vocal lead. Drinking a coffee with spices. having breaks with playing my favourite games or reading stuff on wikipedia. This would it be.

I've been thinking about this for a while and I think my problem with evenings is that they are too short, no way of fitting in everything I'd like to do. But in general...

Junk food of some sort (probably involving chips and a milk shake or ice cream), watching an episode or two of a show I enjoy that I don't expect bullshit from*, spending some quality time with the rats, a bit of of video games and then lots of doodling and working on the comic with an audio book or a nice podcast on. No annoying noises from the outside OR the neighbours.

*lately every time I watch something I haven't seen before I get this niggling feeling of "yeah, but what if it's crapola that will just get me into a bad mood" and I blame the last series of Sherlock. :|

Smoking weed and playing video games. Life's simple pleasures.

A) Coffee while typing my script on my typewriter.

B) Beer and a 2d animated foreign film.

C) An evening where I got everything done that I needed to. =w=;

I could go into detail of all kinds of different ideas of ideal evenings for me, but I just wanna post here to say I love how rainy Des Moines has been lately. Rainy nights improve my mood unconditionally.

If i'm alone, playing every album of Air in order (even City Reading!), while playing Breath of the Wild and boiling oolong tea. Absolute peace.

With friends, it's probably Smash 64 or Mario Party 2 in boxer briefs, lounging on bean bags, and Sour Cream and Onion chips, Complete chaos.

Let's say ideal DAY, since an evening isn't enough. And a "day" might be more than 24 hours, I'm not counting*.

Ideal, okay, so my ideal day begins with me being a millionaire. I'll have a cabin by the beach, on an island not owned by any criminal government that will try to extort my money through taxation. The air will be exactly 80 degrees and there will be only a very slight breeze. No one else will be around for miles, so your human rules regarding clothing will be ignored. Neither my leg, nor my back, nor my head will hurt, and I won't have any allergies either, and I won't have to use the terlet and get exhausted.

Wake up. The sunrise over the ocean is amazing. All I can do is just gaze with awe.

Eat. McDonald's Big Breakfast with hotcakes. And the best coffee in the world (Brown Gold - the brand I can't get anymore).

I watch the first two Equestria Girls movies back to back.

I walk around a bit and then get to work writing (and coffee). I'm just taking dictation. The sentences come to me fully formed. I need nothing else and continue working for about 10 hours while listening to whatever music I want however loud I want until I've finished. The piece goes online in pay what you want form and 1,000 people read it within the first hour, 10,000 by the end of the day. It's the culmination of my great work on escaping from the world of suffering.

I go for an hour walk to stretch my legs. The gentle breeze brings the aroma of the fresh sea air to envelop me in a beautiful canopy. In the background is the faint sound of birds.

I come home and eat pulled pork with cornbread and coleslaw for dinner followed by the most beautiful piece of chocolate cake that you've ever seen for dessert.

I then watch The Passion of the Christ and Risen.

I walk around a bit more thinking aloud before sitting down to meditate. It's the perfect recreation of the 8 September 2006 experiment, only it doesn't end. I see Epinoia and all my desires are instantly fulfilled. I want nothing else, but that's not good enough for her. She has to guide me through to the telos. She rends her own form in two and instantly I'm plunged into the Absolute. The distinction between subject and object is obliterated. Freedom. Freedom even from the thought of desire or fulfillment. I let the body fall away, with all its limitations and frailties, and abide as naked awareness forever.

My money goes into a trust to turn the cabin into a museum and library where people can use the resources I've collected to find freedom.

*Actually I did work out the schedule for the whole day. It's not a single calendar day but it is technically less than 24 continuous hours.

Wake up, sunrise------1:00 (5:00 AM - 6:00 AM)
Breakfast----------------0:40 (6:01 - 6:41)
Equestria Girls---------1:13 (7:00 - 8:13)
Rainbow Rocks---------1:13 (8:20 - 9:33)
Walking------------------0:30 (9:34 - 10:04
Writing------------------10:00 (10:05 AM - 7:05 PM)
Walking------------------1:00 (7:06 - 8:06)
Dinner--------------------0:40 (8:10 - 8:50)
The Passion-------------2:06 (8:51 - 10:57)
Risen --------------------1:47 (11:00 PM - 12:47 AM)
Walking------------------0:30 (12:50 - 1:20)
Meditation--------------in perpetuity

Just draw comics and drink black coffee. Yes, I drink caffeinated coffee at about five or six in the evening. :P

Just drawing in trance while listening to music until the sun rises again. Maybe that does not count as evening anymore ...

For the purposes of this thread, I'm assuming we're meaning "as we are, in our current residence, with what we got". Because, as a habitual creature of the night, "ideal evening" means a lot of things to me, and I'd be here all day telling you about it.

Scenario #1) Productivity: I'm at my desk. TV/computer monitor is playing movies or shows, I have food (not just snack food, but something that could be considered a light meal), hot tea or coffee, and I'm working, either drawing or writing. Sometimes, I'll have a drink while I do so.

Scenario #2): Being lazy: Hot tea, in bed, curled up with a book, or reading webcomics on my phone. Or alternatively, playing some form of game on console, or SimCity4 on my computer.

Scenario #3) Cruising: When I get stir crazy, I drive, with no intended destination. I usually have nothing but a Thermos of coffee, sometimes snack food, and maybe a Mountain Dew. I'll have my phone plugged in, playing music, usually some form of rock and roll or older country music, but there's also game music, R&B, jazz, blues, bluegrass, smooth hip hop, or something or other. I'll be roaming the back roads of wherever I'm at; these days, in central Montana.

Scenario #4) Aurora hunting. Similar to Scenario #3, but add in a camera and tripod. I'll set up in the middle of nowhere, wait for the Northern Lights to appear, and take pictures.

Scenario #5) Camping: Sitting around a fire, with either a beer or a whiskey bottle handy. No phone coverage. Sometimes I'll draw or write around the fire, but mostly I just drink and keep feeding it wood. It's really peaceful.

Scenario #6) Drinking: I used to like to party with friends, but these days I mostly stay away from the bars, excluding karaoke night (because I kick so much ass at it). I am a fan of dive bars, though. When I'm in a sentimental mood (interestingly, that's a Duke Ellington song, and I listen to it when I'm in that kind of mood), I'll go find a quiet corner bar that isn't playing club music loud enough to drown out my thoughts, and I'll bring my art bag with me and go to work.

....I might have a drinking problem, you guys
