Somebody in a Facebook group I follow (an Australian fellow) claimed that American toilets were superior to British/Australian toilets (quote: "If it doesn't flush with the power of a vengeful god, is it a toilet worth having?")

I responded by asking if American toilets would work south of the equator. I mean the water does spin the opposite way, right?

Toilets flush in whatever direction the jets force the water regardless of hemisphere. The effect of the toilet itself on the water is a million times stronger than the effect of the Earths rotation.

The Coriolis force has more of an effect on meteorological systems on the scale of oceanic currents and hurricanes. We have a toilet that flushes straight down because it was designed that way.

It is my imagination, or is today's hyper-connected always online society making young kids grow up faster? In schools and summer camps and most aspects of life, young people are together with a similar age group. On the world wide web, the everyone ages 11 through 60 is more or less in the same forums, same social networks, same video streaming sites. I want kids to have a few more years before they are exposed to all the depressing, nasty, creepy aspects of the world. There was a time not 15 years ago, before smartphones and texting took off, when being by wanting to contact someone meant picking up the telephone. Is mine going to be the last generation who remember what solitude was like? We have amazing technology, but with that comes the choice of how to use it.

I hear this all the time, but I have to disagree on the point of kids being more ignorant before the internet.

Kids will find whatever way they can to absorb "cool" or "adult" behavior. I went to elementary school in the 90's and around the age of eight, was asked by other eight year olds if I'd ever given a blow job just to fuck with me (because I didn't know what it meant, but they did). And then around 2002, my 12 year old classmates made fun of me for wearing a shirt with a kitten on it. Because the word "pussy" is a thing, and I didn't connect the dots. According to my dad, this sort of thing happened in the 70's, too. Dirty jokes among kids just happen. Usually because of their parents, their parents' friends, other relatives, etc.

I'm sure some kids are off looking up random crap about the deep web or something they saw in a PG-13 horror flick, but most I'm aware of watch Minecraft vids and get uncomfortable outside of their age group. So they hop off to something else. I mean, kids do take advantage of their own agency when they can - being on a computer makes it easier to get away from a creep than one they might be in the same room with, you know?
I'm trying. :)

The problem with AVP:Requiem is that it's too dark. It is probably the darkest movie ever made. I don't mean the subject matter, I mean literally it is too dark. You can't see anything. They could have made it a radio show and saved millions of dollars on sets and effects you can't see.

Ha, good for you, I know hardly any card games.

Why aren’t more mangas full colour? What do they have against colour?? The covers are so beautiful but sometimes I can’t help but be disappointed or underwhelmed by the b/w art. Even though it is amazing, and there is a place for it, I just don’t see why there’s so much except that it’s cheaper.

It's orders of magnitude cheaper to print B&W than colour. With manga consumed the way it is in Japan, the expense of colour is simply not warranted outside of the occasional promo image. It's also faster to produce B&W art, not least because the author doesn't have to keep switching tools. Mangaka are already overworked, they really don't need that extra burden.
Most full-colour manga are webcomics (where printing costs aren't an issue, though time still is) or short promotional comics done as part of a larger, full-colour, non-comic publication.

Some mangaka embrace this limitation and make amazing B&W work, but for many, it's just a thing they deal with, and they don't make good use of their comic being in B&W ):

Éldlive is completely in colour, just beautiful! But it has too much sexy fan service ugh. But I wish there was more stuff like that, though I can see how that would be difficult, but not impossible all the time. Chi’s Sweet Home is in full colour too.

Chi's Sweet Home is interesting in that it was originally printed B&W, but the collected volumes are in colour. Often, it's the other way around for manga that have colour pages. It'd be nice to see more of that.

Yeah, it would be nice to see more colour manga, at least as long as the mangaka get more time to do the colours. We're not likely to see it in print, but there are webcomics and webtoons!
I believe the reason Eldlive is in colour is because it's originally an online comic. Honestly though, I think that Eldlive looks like a comic that's in colour because the publisher asked for it to be, not because the artist wanted it in colour ): Just as with perfunctory-looking B&W, this is a likely consequence of artistic decisions driven by publishers.

Yup. I know my comic could never be b/w because then it wouldn’t make any sense, we wouldn’t be able to tell that these two kids are different by looking at them then.

I really took these trashy speakers for granted. Now they're getting all screwy and dying on me and all I can think about is how badly I wanna listen to music.

I've been a mod over at /r/pcgaming for a handful of months now, and it's been, not necessarily most stressful, but different form of more stressful jobs on reddit. While on /r/Doom I mostly deal with bigots, because violent video games attract people like that, /r/pcgaming has mostly just been cleaning up after people posting there for the first time that can't take two minutes to read our rules. No, we're not a pc building subreddit, we're a gaming subreddit. We're here to talk about games on the PC, not jerk you off on how much money you spent or hand hold you through your first build.

I can't understand how people just assume websites don't have some sort of rules, even if the person normally is someone that can abide to them.

And for god's sake, learn to not be an asshole for once. Stop acting like you're some saint of truth because you know how to swear.

It's really funny to see that my parents' car has the wonkiest thermometer. Whenever I leave for school, it says that it's ~50°F outside when it really is colder than that. (Today is 26°F right now!)
Just some kid who likes to draw and sprite. Thinking of starting a comic and actually sticking with it.

The Game Awards is happening (as of this writing) and Rockstar is obviously rigging the whole thing.

EDIT: Nevermind. PS4's God of War won GOTY and another award, so I guess it wasn't rigged.
