Are there any Boston-area SJers? My boyfriend and I might be visiting up that way early in the summer.

Heads up for anyone in between Great Falls, Montana and Texarkana, Texas; I'll be coming through the week of the 6th through the 10th! Will be roughly following US 287 down most if the way, but I might swing around the long way back on the way home up the I-35E corridor through the Great Plains. If anybody wants to meet up for lunch, shoot me a PM.

Ah, damn! Might have to come home for a weekend.

(I'm assuming you're meaning Portland, Oregon; if you're talking about Maine, driving cross-country and back over the weekend is going to prove difficult.)

Yep, that Portland. PM me if you'll be in town and we can swap contact info and set something up.

**Up top Edit #2: This Sunday evening's launch was rescheduled for Monday Oct 17 at 7:40PM. Apparently rocket science is hard.

Do any of you in the DelMarVa area plan to view the rocket launch from Wallops Island, Virginia? It's a bit unconventional (literally), but there are not many places you can see a 300 ton rocket ascend to the International Space Station outside of Florida. The launch is scheduled for 7:40 PM Monday, but I plan to be at the NASA Wallops Visitor Center early. I don't know if any of my friends can come, but if they do, we may spend part of the evening exploring the local parks. Even if you won't be at the viewing area, nearly everyone on the East Coast should be able to see the rocket weather permitting. Various factors including hurricanes have previously caused the launch to be postponed, so check the NASA Launch Schedule page for updates on the Orbital ATK craft aboard the Antares rocket.

In my original reading of your post, I thought you traveled across the country to watch an event a month past. Just yesterday, you could have watched the Atlas V launch from Cape Canaveral FL live on NASA TV. It's a good thing no smackjeevers did make the quest in October because it was rescheduled to the following evening with less than six hours warning. I ended up watching Antares' ascension from home 100 miles away as a point of light swept across the night sky. Unfortunately, there are no more rockets scheduled from Wallops until spring '17. They launch several smaller sub-orbital rockets per year, and the next big Antares mission is planned for July. I was bugging my friends all year with constant updates because this year's mission was rescheduled about seven times. For some reason they got extra cautious after the previous mission's anomaly in 2014 ...
Spoiler! :
Oh. Yeah that's expensive.
