So at some point after Chris and Gene passed on and I realised that I wasn't going into hospital AND that keeping rats was something I'd like to do for as long as possible.

Meet Strange and Norrell. They are about 15% wild, though we always say that only Norrell shows it, Strange is as gentle as fancy rats get.

They are so cute! How do people think that rats are not cute?

I knooow they are just brilliant! And they already feel so at home! I think with rats I started appreciating time as-is, instead of y'know, thinking it should take YEARS before you know someone.

To be fair most people who think that either had no experience with rats or are just the sort of people who don't like animals/treat them as objects. I sometimes like thinking that talking about rats more/sharing stuff about my rats might change someone's prejudice, but it's kind of like disability themes in my comics - if the person was ready to change their opinion it might push them in the right direction, if they were not there's no point trying to persuade them.

I have two cute kittens, Bandit (the black and white one) and Moose (the brown one). Bandit is pretty intelligent, loves water, and sounds possessed instead of meowing. Moose is dumb, hates water but will follow Bandit anywhere, and just screams instead of meowing.

Picked up a guppy off the carpet this morning. She looked pretty dead for a bit and she still looks terrible, but I think she'll recover.

edit: apparently falling a few feet, not being able to breathe for a few minutes, then accidentally being flung at a desk is not good for fish.

Rats are such lovely intelligent creatures! And oh no, I hope your fish is okay D:

I have a load of chickens, some of whom are tame, and some ho still don't like me very much. The tamest is Jumpy. She loves cuddles and biting trousers and will actually jump on my back or climb on my knees if she gets the chance.

Nope, had to put her down. I was a little sad, mostly because I didn't put her down sooner. They don't really have personalities, but can be sturdier than I thought apparently.

I'd really like to get a dog, but I can't until I get my yard fenced, and the city of Great Falls and Cascade County are being real pains in the ass about it. The county says I can build my fence out to within a foot of the sidewalk; Great Falls says it has to be five feet, which cuts a significant chunk of the dog's roaming area out of my yard. Trying to work a settlement with the city, but it seems they're hell-bent on being douchebags about the whole affair. And they wonder why I haven't changed my residency yet.

A stray cat came up on our back deck and was on the railing next to the window where my cats like to hang out and bird/squirrel watch. My cats were freaking out at the cat and so we decided since there was only a screen separating them it woudl be a good idea to move them away and close the window. Well we probably should have focused on shutting the window and then moving the cats because when I tried to pick up my girl she FREAKED OUT and then she and my boy started attacking each other, like true fighting not play fighting. We were scared and didn't want them to hurt each other so we were tryign to separate them but in the flurry my boy attacked MY legs. I managed to get a hold of him and brought him into the bathroom to cool down for a while (it's the only room in the house that has a functioning door so -_-) and when I finally got a chance to check myself I saw my legs have a bunch of ~3inch long scratches, one of which went all the way through the skin and was bleeding pretty bad. Got it cleaned up and bandaged all the ones that seemed to need it.

Poor dumb animals. They are okay now. I know they didn't mean to attack each other and they were probably just in panic mode from the other cat being there and so close to them. We are keeping an eye on them anyway. They usually play-fight a lot but we just have our alert up for now.
