URGENT Personal Problem!

Postby Mata Nui » March 30th, 2011, 7:30 pm

Okay...
My freaking jerk of a neighbor decides that our dog barks too much.
He's complained before, but we've tried everything.
So this time he goes off and complains to the city.
So we get a letter in the mail today, and it says that we have 10 days to make a decision on what to do with our dog.
We have a family member dying, and now this, so this is ridiculous.
If we try to talk with the neighbor, he acts like a selfish jerk, which he totally is, and he doesn't care.
We have several options:
1. Move to a different house (getting away from the neighbor and fixing the problem)
Problem: Will take a lot of time and with me at school and my dad at work, my mom would do the majority of work.

2. Give the dog to another home (giving it to the pound is NOT an option, she's 3 yrs and she wouldn't last)
Problem: We lose our dog, and our neighbor wins

Any other options?
I need your help.
Each answer is appreciated.
Please help me!
WE HAVE TO DECIDE SOON!

Set his house on fire and complain to the city that the smoke of his cherished memories is an eyesore.

I had no idea a dog barking was such a problem in the city :/ They should try sleeping with a dozen roosters welcoming the sun at 4:30 every morning.

You don't have to get rid of her or move. My family is involved in Guide Dogs, and when a dog has a bad barking problem, the training school will either slip them a no bark collar, or, if the dog answers really well to rewards, train her not to bark.

You can look around your area and see if there's a training school around to teach her not to bark. If not you can get a no bark collar.

@Sonic-ock
Excuse me, but this is a serious situation and I want it to be treated like one.

One of the things we have tried when he first complained was a no bark collar.
It worked for a little while.
She doesn't respond to treats, and she's a coonhound (a breed with an instinct of barking.)
And as for the problem not being this worked up over, that's what we feel.
Our neighbor can't understand anyone but himself. That's one of his MANY flaws.

All I can say it find a friend or family member to take the dog until you come up with a better solution. I wouldn't advise unless you've had other problems with this particular neighbor or the neighborhood in general. Is he the only neighbor complaining? has be complained about other Trivial bullshit in the past? If other people in your neighborhood have had problems with this neighbor then maybe ya'll can get together and convince him to calm down or move.

or burn his house down.

He has complained about other things before.
I said he was a selfish jerk.
My other neighbors aren't mean or jerks, but they just don't care.
They don't pay attention to others.
I doubt they would "rally" up and convince the guy to calm down.
He's made his mind.
It's too late for that...

If there's a noise ordinance in your city, then there's not a lot you can do about it. I'm curious, do you leave the dog outside or is your dog so loud that it bothers your neighbours from inside the house? If you leave it outside to bark all day and night, then I'll be honest, that would bother me too. If the city has said you need to get rid of your dog, something tells me it's not as cut and dry as your neighbour being a jerk.

You sound a lot like Holden Caulfield, actually.

We let her go out when she feels it.
When our neighbor first complained, we kept her inside.
But she still barked, and our neighbor STILL got angry.
We tried a lot, but he's not helping us at all by reporting us to the city.
As a neighbor or someone who has a problem, he should come to US and talk about it TOGETHER.
We are willing to be understanding, but he just can't get that through his thick head.

Option 3: MURDER YOUR NEIGHBOR.

Step 1: Get a metal box
Step 2: Put change in the box
Step 3: When dog barks, violently shake box.
Step 4: That should stop the barking.

Also the noise ordinance sounds a bit.... strict? I'm not sure where you live but generally the dog is allowed to bark if it's during "work operation hours".

I am also curious how mean this neighbor is as you live with the dog yet he's complaining? WTF?

Also burn his house down after you murder him. That way it looks like an accident.

If you have to get rid of the dog, I recommend advertising her in the classifieds or some other place. She will of been house trained, knows how to control herself around people and all that. Many people who are interested in pets do not want to take the time to train them, or do not know how to.

Do it with him alive, but trapped. (possibly knocked out.) If there is no smoke in his lungs they will know he was dead beforehand.

Make sure as you're killing him, you also suffocate him with smoke while your doing it. If there's no smoke in the lungs, then they'll know he was murdered before the fire.

EDIT: Aw, someone got to it before me.

ON A MORE SERIOUS NOTE:
Check to see what the actual ordinance is for your area regarding dogs barking.
Also, if your neighbor is a constant complainer, you could always talk to the city itself. They have records of complaints, usually, or at least they should. If he has a long track record of complaining about his neighbors (for example, 911 dispatch knows if someone constantly calls for nothing and they make note of it), you may be able to get the issue waived.
I love you, spam bots.

As many of you have stated, we are going to check out the ordinances.
Keep posting advice, though. We still need help. :?
