I'm kinda curious as to how people define romance now. Is it straight out kissing and making out (+more) or maybe in a more subdued level where someone has a crush on someone else? If romance means the latter, it would be hard to find any romance comics since any comics I've read are going to have some side plotline of the main character falling in love with someone.

Im a fan of romance, but at the same time I guess what I would consider a superb comic would not let that romance and the pursuit of romance make up the entire character. Although I am a fan of the genre-Shouji is 100% guilty of this. If the girl isn't in a relationship...she is thinking about the relationship and all her interacts involve that relationship some how (advice from friends trying to hook her up...jealous enemies etc).

There is romance in the stereotypical love sense but then there is the old definition of romance which involves a very deep but ultimately platonic bond. They are important to have some of these elements to have a healthy character. Romance is a natural progression of many relationships. If the character has nothing to lose why do we as an audience care? But love and friendship is a powerful motivator and gives something incredibly human to the story.

Im biased though. My story starts off my with my main character already in a long term relationship. Hahaha

Here are a few comics I like that don't have romance now and are unlikely to have any in the conceivable future.
It's A Hard Life
Lost Nightmare
A Girl And Her Shadow
A.P.I. Virus
This Is Hyrule

They're all different genres, subject matter, and art styles. I'm sure one of them is likely to appeal to you.

I'm fond of Luffinpuff and Eric, personally; there's one storyline that could be seen as dealing with romance, but I don't view it that way.

But then Binda is my favorite fishlady and I'm thus more than a little biased in her favor. :v

In mine it's just action and adventure. It even states no sexual themes in the synopsis. XD I know what ya mean though. I can't stand Bl etc. :P

If you're willing to look at comics off-site, some of my favorites that are not romance centered are:

1) Unsounded
2) Strays
3) Derelict

Good luck. Finding non BL comics can be rather difficult, in my opinion. :(
