Smack Santa 2018 ELF Sign Up

Ho ho ho!

I know we're a mite early for our usual holiday shenanigans, but given how short-notice we rolled out things last year, I'm hoping to make up for it this year. That said, I'm putting out the call for helper elves early.

What Santa Needs Help With
-Coding: Old Saint Nick is, well, old, guys. Computers are not his forte, and while Santa is working on it, he is not very code-savvy. So if we have anybody good at building comic sites that would be able to get one built between now and mid-December, Santa would appreciate the help.

-Gift Elves: These are the folks who volunteer to make gifts for those who get scrooged (don't receive a gift) or grinched (receive a lackluster or terrible gift). These are the people that ultimately save the day for the people that would otherwise have a real sad Secret Santa event, so take this job seriously. The notice for these to roll out will come out Christmas day (after the turn-in deadline) and will need to come in as quickly as possible, so please take this into account before committing.

Sign-ups for volunteers will continue until October 1st. After that, sign ups for PARTICIPANTS will start. Looking forward to the event. Santa thanks you all in advance!

Um, I am really good with coding...but I have a really tight schedule here at school & with my homework...being a new teen is stressing for me...so I could probably work on one...but I’m not too sure. *le practically me  :geek: *

Hey, Santa. My team would happily handle all the dirty work for you this year if you're interested. PM me.

can we have more details? (sorry I only joined SJ this year)
I'm interested to be a gift elf, but during exactly when to when elves need to be able to make stuff? what is the deadline for the normal event (christmas day maybe?) and deadline for the elves?

The deadline for the normal event is "Christmas day", as the OP says. The deadline is "as soon as possible", since everyone wants their gift by Christmas. Ideally, a gift elf should have their gift done in 1-2 days, but a little longer is acceptable (gifts are usually posted in series rather than all at once, so some gifts are posted up to a couple of days later, depending on the number of participants). Because of the tight deadline, gift elves need to be committed and ready to work at a moment's notice during the days around Christmas.
Very rarely, gift elves get lucky and someone who is unable to deliver their gift notifies the head elves ahead of time, and the gift elf can get their gift done before the deadline. Usually though, the Christmas deadline comes and there's no gift, so that's when the gift elves start working.

Since this is your first time participating in the SJ Secret Santa, I recommend starting out as Secret Santa (sign-ups start Oct 1) just to get a feel for how it all works, when stuff gets posted, etc. You could see if you can spot which gifts came from gift elves ;D And then next year, you could try being a gift elf once you're familiar with the way the way Secret Santa goes on SJ.

I wanted to be gift-elf because I can draw quickly, but indeed, I have no idea how the event works
I'll look forward to it! ^^

Details usually get put in the participant sign-up post, and also sent out to the volunteers. I imagine Santa will be sending that out this week.

I would love to volunteer as tribute for Gift Elf! My company's lead designer is extremely talented, especially when it comes to the pace at which he can churn out incredible pieces of art. I also love writing with a passion so if need be we can work together on this, depending on how many people will require gifts and what their interests are.

We'll make sure nobody gets left out, just send me a PM or contact me however works best for you.

If your artist wants to participate, they should do so directly to eliminate the additional time-wasting of a middleman since Gift Elf work is very time-sensitive, and because they'd enjoy both the work and participating in the community.

I won't be middle-manning. It'll be direct communication for all Gift Elf work, especially when it comes to gift time. I apologize, that was poorly communicated. I was just speaking his words on his behalf because he asked me to and that's frequently how our relationship works. He is fully clued in and eagerly looks forward to both the work and community involvement.

Would you like for me to have him post in the thread or anything or directly to verify?

Nah. Don't mind me, I'm not one of the people running Secret Santa :]
Sign-ups are done through the thread, so if they have their own account, they should post here. If not, then I guess you've already signed them up, and will get a PM around Christmas if your (artist's) services are needed.

And Gift Elf sign ups are over! Thank you to all our volunteers! PMs will be sent shortly.

For those looking to sign up as participants, please sign up in the SS sign up thread!

Apologies for the late reply. Are you and your folks still interested in designing the Secret Santa site?

It doesn't have to be anything fancy, even if it's just a basic template with a holiday theme. Beyond that, design the best as you see fit! Thank you very much!
