Obscure and Forgotten Cartoons

Obscure and Forgotten Cartoons

Postby mikemacdee » September 12th, 2015, 6:39 am

I'm always on the lookout for obscure cartoons I remembered seeing once in the early, early 90's. I started this thread as a result of trying to find the trippy animated short from 1991, "The Baby From Outer Space" (seen at the top of this list), only to learn that it tragically doesn't exist on the internet except in bad-quality snippets. Does anyone happen to have a quality copy of this for restoration and preservation? It's a cool mix of animation styles and it'd be a shame to let it disappear forever.

Also post videos of obscure cartoons you remember from the days when Sci-Fi Channel used to be good, and Nickelodeon used to have animated filler in addition to commercials.

What counts as obscure? Does Mummies Alive count? I watched that show every weekday on Sci-Fi before school. Seeing as how at least some of it is on Youtube, I guess it's not that obscure.

I guess forgotten cartoons would be interesting, too. I remember it had an action figure line as well.

I miss the old Sci-Fi channel...

I remember way back on Nickelodeon there was this show called Butt-Ugly Martians. It was a pretty early all CGI show, but I think it was cancelled pretty quick. I think I only remember it because when I was in Kindergarten, I got a figurine of one of the aliens as a prize.

The Boomerang channel used to show reruns of the old 80s cartoon Thundarr The Barbarian at like 2 in the morning. I loved watching that show with Thundarr, Princess Ariel, and Ookla the Mock.

Holy shit, yes. I remember this. They were indeed butt-ugly, and you're right, it was only on for like a season or so.

You mentioning that has reminded me of "The Brothers Flub," a cartoon that ran from like 1998-1999 or maybe a little later, about two brothers on some other planet who had to do deliveries for the queen of the planet. The theme song was extremely obnoxious, and the humor was miss more often than hit to the point where I would watch the show out of spite.

Cartoons I've watched as a kid that people don't talk about

-Pocket Dragons Adventures
-Jumanji (TV series)
-The Legend of Tarzan
-Superbook
-Tama and Friends
-Generation O!
-Redwall
-Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys
-Rambo: The Force of Freedom
-Flying Rhino Junior High
-Project Geeker
-Dumb Bunnies
-Birdz
-What-a-Mess
-anything from the PBS Kids Bookworm Bunch

...just to name a few.

I watched a lot of TV as a kid however our family did not have cable (no Nick, no Disney Channel, no Cartoon Network) so I had to watch everything else.

Earthworm Jim cartoon!

Sure, it was based off a video game, but by FAR it was one of the most faithful adaptations, because the games were just as weird.

What Ever Happened to Robot Jones.

It was like the creators knew it would fade into obscurity.

Disney is the best for obscure cartoons though, like Dave the Barbarian, Gargoyles, The Legend of Tarzan mentioned above, Get Ed, SlugTerra, Lloyd in Space, Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go!, and Kong among others. Some of these are more obscure than others.
