I won't apologize for this.

Saw the last 30 minutes of a movie called Sleepless today. I saw the beginning a couple days ago. It's a remake of a French film with Jamie Foxx. 90% of the whole movie is one long scene (not a single shot, just a single scene). Jamie Foxx, his idiot son, and his even stupider wife, are running around a casino looking for bad cops who are running drugs. It's one scene. One continuous action scene.

There are a lot of action movies that have multiple scenes. Predator, 300, they full of almost non-stop action, but there are breaks in between. This movie had no breaks. It just kept going. It was like an hour of real time people running around a building. It was actually kind of boring. Jamie Foxx is a good cop, and that's the problem. He frequently lets people live who he should have killed, because they just get up and fight him again. One of them I call Iron Man because nothing hurts him. He gets thrown through a window and doesn't even have a scratch. You can hit him a thousand times and he doesn't bleed, doesn't bruise, doesn't even slow down. He's like the terminator or something. When he finally gets killed by getting stabbed in the neck with a flaming liquor bottle that's the one funny moment that kept me awake until the end.

The wife is especially stupid, so I feel the need to mention her here. The son is just a dumb kid. He can be excused for being stupid. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. The wife is suicidally stupid and wants to get people killed. Jamie Foxx calles her up in the middle of a gun fight and says "I've got a confession to make. The reason I work late and I'm never around is because I'm a cop. I'm in the middle of a gun fight rescuing our son. Whatever you do DON'T leave work to come to the Luxus Casino (actual name) otherwise you will be entering into a gunfight and you'll just distract me and get us all killed."

"Come on, baby, you know I'm an idiot. I'll be right there."

"No! DON'T COME HERE! People are dying and I'll get killed if you show up."

"Oh hell no, I'm coming." [Jamie Foxx gets another call and hangs up]

She shows up at the wrong time, with a gun, and shoots at Jamie Foxx through a cloud of smoke the bad guy put up on purpose just to make it likely such an event would happen.

Foxx has a partner for half a minute who shows up and gets shot and then dies. He was the most useless character.

The ending is a sequel hook for a sequel they'll probably never make because the movie didn't break even.

Overall I'd give it a passing grade, but only just.

Finished watching the Queer Eye series on Netflix. Honestly, it was really cute and I highly recommend it.

I've been watching Manben lately.

If you don't know what it is, Manben is a series created by manga creator Naoki Urasawa (creator of Monster) that watches other manga creators go through their work day of creating a manga chapter... or just a few pages. It depends on the episode. It's a very calming show, and it offers a lot of insight into how different manga artists make their comics. It's also super calming. I've actually learned a lot from it, like different techniques, stylistic choices, and most importantly: there's no wrong way to make comics.

Here's a URL to a playlist on daily motion of a bunch of the episodes.

Finally got around to watching MST3K on Netflix and... it's kinda boring. Sorry, but I've gotten more laughs out of the online shows that reference it like Cinema Snob.

Admittedly Netflix only had season 2, so maybe all the laughs were in the first season?

I remember sometimes watching old seasons of it on television back when that was a thing, and I didn't find it funny then. Its brand of humour is probably just not our thing? I'm pretty sure multiple seasons of it are very popular with its fans, so I doubt you happened to hit a particularly dry season.

I always tried to like it, but it just never rang as very funny to me.
