Two doors, three guards, one choice.

Postby Yochanan » November 20th, 2014, 2:29 pm

You walk to a stone pillar near your house that was not there before. You walk up to it and walls form around you. There are two doors and three men. You read a sign on the pillar saying that one lies, one speaks truth, and the third will do either randomly, but they all must answer. One door leads to agonous torture that will lead to death after twenty days, the other leads to freedom and all your debts released after seventeen days (You will be killed if you purposely rack up debts in that time). You may ask whatever you like.

You do not know who is who.

I ask them to tell me what Man #1's answer would be if I asked which door leads to freedom.

"How many fingers am I holding up?"

I ask this until I determine who answers truthfully each time, then ask him which door to take.

Shouldn't the riddle include a set number of questions?

Shouldn't the riddle include an OP who cares about his thread?

Just saying.
