Do you have any Comic Books...I mean about making them!

Postby moonwaves » February 2nd, 2013, 7:57 pm

I was wondering if anyone here had read/owns any books on comic making.
Not how to draw books or book about writing. Books specifically about the medium.

I have read and own so far:
Making Comics
Understanding Comics
How to Make Webcomics
Mastering Comics

and I have a couple in mind I plan to get in the near future.

So what books do you have or plan get and what do you think about them.

Understanding Comics
Making Comics
Stan Lee's How to Draw Comics
Stan Lee's How to Write Comics
Creating Characters with Personality
Character Mentor
Drawing Words & Writing Pictures
Mastering Comics

Making Comics

Will Eisner:
-Comics & Sequential Art
-Graphic Storytelling and Visual Narrative
-Expressive Anatomy for Comics and Narrative

But mainly I learn faster from the actual comic making. Good books though. :)

Reading through Scott McCloud's Making Comics once again, I eventually discovered (and purchased) these two awesome books by David Chelsea:

Perspective! For Comic Book Artists
Extreme Perspective! For Artists

While on the topic related to books about making comics, I also have 'How to Draw Steampunk'. ;)

Making Comics by Scott McCloud is probably one of my favorite instructional books ever, but I haven't read his other ones. To those of you who have, how would you compare them to Making Comics?

And some of these other titles look good... I'll have to see if I can pick some up!

Since I have Making Comics, Understanding Comics is also excellent. I don't have Reinventing Comics yet, but I heard that one was good, but debatable to some I think. :?

I have a couple. A friend of mine gave me that Scott McCloud book, which I need to re-read. I really enjoyed it. Read it cover to cover, but as with any instructional book, it's good to read them over and over.

In college I bought a lot of those "How To Draw Manga" books.

I stared watching Mark Crilley...and I got all three of his Mastering Manga series...my art improved dramatically. I think the combination of watching someone do it, reading, and practicing (of course,) makes a difference.

Lincoln once said he read aloud because then he was absorbing the material in three ways: He was seeing it, he was saying it, and he was hearing it. Pretty smart guy: already had the idea of different learning technics without the concept really being studied yet :)
