Transparency on Comic Pages?

Postby Ethanicus » November 19th, 2018, 5:25 pm

Hey all.

I posted a test page on my comic so I could work on the CSS. The image I uploaded was a .PNG with transparency, just to see how it would look.

However, when I looked at the actual page, I found that it now has white filling in all the transparent areas, and it's been turned into a .JPG.

Is there a way to disable this behavior? Is it a paid feature? A lot of my ideas simply won't work with this.

Thanks.

This happens if the page you upload is larger than the allowed size (500kb for comics without subscriptions). If your source image is under the limit, it should stay unchanged and retain its transparency.

Subscriptions increase the maximum file size, in case you really need it (2MB for Donator, 5MB for Premium). However, keep in mind that large images also take longer to load and many readers dislike having a loading delay when reading comics.

Edit: If your images are only slightly over the limit, you could use pngcrush or optipng to optimize your files to help get them under the limit. There's also TinyPNG, an online service that you can run your PNGs though that'll reduce the file size, you could try that.
