Can a Warning be given without an 18+ rating?

Heyo! I'm nearing completion of my initial stint of pages for my first webcomic and plan to host on Smackjeeves. I would probably rate my comic on the end of the old comic ratings I used to see of Older Teen, since it contains graphic violence and there will be sensitive subjects. I would like to make a sort of splash screen for new readers to warn them about this the first time they go on the site, but the only built in system I see is the 18+ question pop-up. Is there any way to put this in as a Custom Page or should I just stick to hoping people read the comic's description first?

The 18+ warning is only for those comics that are strictly 18+, it's not meant to be used for general content warnings like the ones that you're going for. In your case, the description is fine. You could also customise your News/Welcome page to have content warnings if you want a clickthrough-type thing.

For particularly squeamish pages, you can add a warning on the top of the page that requires a scroll down to see the rest of it.

See, even then, I am still nervous myself about 'rating' out of fear I'll be crossing over an invisible line. My comic is definitely not what you'd consider 18+, since it contains no sex or sexual acts, no drug use, and at most, the only thing you see that's possibly not kid friendly is some violent fight scenes and maybe a dismembered limb or too (and even then there is no gore, just ripped flesh. Basically even tamer than anything you'd see on an animal documentary)

I've had my comic with a warning label though anyway just to be safe. But so far only 1 page out of my several hundred had anything remotely wince-y in it... (this page to be precise http://hybridor.smackjeeves.com/comics/ ... e-page-37/ ).

Could I get away with removing the mature tag and just leave a warning too? I really would rather it not have a mature tag since it's honestly a safe story and I'd hate for people to not see or avoid cuz of the tag, when at worse, it's got some ripped flesh and nasty wounds showing. But I've been playing it safe out of fear someone is gonna find that too much and report me...

Yes, you'll be fine. In the unlikely worst case, you might be asked to add a mature warning. SJ wouldn't take more drastic action than that on a first "offense", especially when they must know the rules regarding what counts as "mature" are very vague and subjective.

I know not to use the 18+ warning, but it was the only example I could give close to what I wanted haha. But the Welcome Page is a good idea. I'll try and mess with that.
