Partner as a co-creator on Patreon AND stick it on my comic?

Postby Reiz16 » September 10th, 2019, 7:03 pm

I just started Patreon, but I don't know what 2 do. I want to share my money with an artist, but how?

Plus, where do I ask my fans to give me the money in the first place?

Thanks! :)

Patreon doesn't have any way to automatically share income with an artist, so you'd have to manually pay them. Perhaps every time you withdraw your Patreon money, you can Paypal a share to the artist. Liberapay, a Patreon-like service, has a Teams feature that lets you automatically distribute money between multiple people, but the drawback to Liberapay is it's less likely your supporters already have an account there, so that's an extra hurdle for them.

As for where to ask your fans for money, that really depends on how you interact with your fans. You should, at a minimum, include a link to your Patreon on your comic's site. Mentioning it in the author comments every now and then is good, but don't do it every time since it can get annoying. I recommend mentioning it about once a month, ideally when you also have a new Patreon post up so that people can have something to go look at.
Many artists mention their Patreons, Ko-Fis, etc on social media every now and then. If you have a pinned post with your work, or if a post goes viral, add a comment with your support links to it.

Is it okay if 1 of us gives the link out in our profile pic?

Sure? I'm not sure what you mean. If your Patreon is for the comic, it's best to keep mentions of it to the comic's site/social media, so that it's clear where the money goes. If people want to support the comic (including both you and the writer) but the Patreon seems to be associated with one of you, it can be confusing.
